If there was a crisis, we would admit it.” words spoken byGauteng ANC secretary David Makhura. It's not fair for the City of Johannesburg(COJ) to ignore citizens complaints or to create a false image of reality to citizens. But then again citizens depend on the media who are the "watchdog of society" to create an image for them and to expose corruption practices.
But Perhaps the exposure of corrupt COJ is an attempt by the media to look for problems that can be reported instead of effectively using the freedom of speech right, this could negatively affect our citizens ideology of South Africa.

After hearing about the 5000 unresolved complaints the ANC has implemented a Revenue Step Change Programme to deal with the billing crisis. This is all well and good that government is responding to this billing problem but why is it that the government only responds after the media exposes how the government is not doing its job or poor handling of a problem?
I was caught by the views of citizens about South Africa. as a country. Out of these views I was caught by an anonymous writer who said:
"I love South Africa I live in Johannesburg but I am afraid that Crime, Politics, Work and Racism is forcing me to think alternatively and move to a place over seas where I can and will be much happier".
- What is your view of South Africas image, the media and government ?
I do think that the media should expose corruption for the nation to come up with better ways to try and end it. we depend on the media to provide info and so they should do just that.
ReplyDelete@ Media socialite, most definetly our media represents societies voice and effectively fulfils the need of giving current information to citizens.
Deletethere is no such thing as responsible media, the press should report on all things that happen, those that concern us and those that do not.the government and the media will never have a good relationship. at times it does feel like the media does complain too much.
ReplyDelete@ Edwin, I agree that the press should report on all matters, it is the only way citizens are informed of information.
Deletei also dont think the media should expose corruption its just not a good thing at all
ReplyDeleteI disagree with your view although corruption is not a good thing, the media has every right to expose it.
DeleteI think media should expose corruption so that those who commit corruption will be known by the public that they are the ones who destroy our country.
ReplyDeleteI also think media should expose corruption, people must take accountability for ever act they are involved in, the media is a source of information and communication between government and citizens
DeleteJust imagine how much corruption would be if there`d be no media, media limits political leaders from corrupting which is helpful for the citizens.
ReplyDelete@Zubernathi, I think without media there would definetly be lots of corruption,Media should definetly continue exposing corruption.
ReplyDeletemedia is the right tool to use when it comes to exposing corruption,it would'nt be fair if we were kept in the dark about such things.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you, Government needs to take accountability for every promise it has made to the public.
DeleteMedia sometimes for me is too harsh and I doubt that sometimes it is that credible but at most times it is exposing the truth.
ReplyDelete@ Refi, Yes that is true, sometimes media uses its freedom of speech to expose and to push their own personal hatred agendas.
Deletemedia must keep on exposing ,citezens need a pure free country from crime and corruption
ReplyDelete@ Nkhensani, I agree with you. I love how the Media is forever ready to communicate matters that are of public interest.
DeleteHonestly speaking I must say that our South African organisations understand protesting as a tool to solve problems. However,Our government have to be exposed for unethical actions. My view of SA image is bad because the government take issues for granted until people protest.Remember the issue of books at Limpopo...I mean how do outside countries think of our government if it keeps on failing us while the leaders's personal needs are fulfilled.
ReplyDelete@ Moimane, yes exposure of constant crime and unethical practices in our country has become a norm, which does not not protray an acceptable image of our country. I do not understand the reason as to why the Government has such poor responsibility skills towards fellow citizens.
DeleteActually is fair but not fair when the media expose it in the wrong way because whatever is written or said on the media platform is taken as truth and brings bad reputation to our government and South Africa as a whole.
ReplyDeleteIt is very true that what the media says is taken as truth. The reputation of our government is seen as negative because of how the media expresses our government. At the same time however, I don't blame the media for expressing the government for what it is, the media can't express a positive image of our government if it is in fact negative in its handling towrds problems and citizens.
DeleteThe media should write about what is newsworthy and the government should be intimidated by the media, but is wrong to expose other people.
ReplyDeleteI think the media should write about every negative and posititive action taken by the government. However I feel it is only correct to expose people if they are not ethical in their practices.
Deleteevery time when we have issues with our government, we jump to protesting, why cant we communicate like human beings... why cant we have the goverment to court, or solve problems ligally so?
ReplyDeleteI also feel that the manner of which people handle their disagreements with government is not correct as the violent protests that occur lead to high death rates, but what else are people supposed to do when their needs are not met?.
DeleteThe should never stop exposing all the wrong doings of this country, i mean they are the watch dogs of society, if they do not watch out for us, who will?...
ReplyDeleteI agree, the media is, societies main source of information.
Deletei think they should be exposed because what they doing is against the law and they should be panished like maybe jail and making sure they freze their accounts so that they cannot avoid jail time because their powerful or rich with the corruption the did
ReplyDeleteI also feel that there should be more severe punishments towards persons who are found guilty of corruption. It is not fair for the media to spend all its efforts to expose corruption and then there being minimal accountability.
DeleteMedia has made things easy for us to speak up about issues affecting us as a nation. To keep quiet about such is not an option for us, we will continue to speak until they get the message.
ReplyDeleteMedia has indeed created a lot of opportunity for society to think about and discuss how they feel about issues that occur daily. The media and the fact that it can not be controlled by government is an awesome communnication tool that exposes corruption and gets messages across to citizens and government about day to day practices and feelings of th epublic.
Deleteyes media is there to inform people if we are not exposed to such then as Public Relations Practioners and journalist we won't have jobs.
ReplyDeleteThats true, considering the fact that Journalists and the Public Relations Practitioners work towards communication through using the media as vehicles of th emessages they send to the public.
DeleteMedia and journalists are the watchdog's of society and if they are not there we have no one to inform us about what is happening in our societies.
